Two More Black And White Vs Color
Two more botanical images comparing black and white to the color version. In each case I am a bit torn between my favored version, though I think I like the colored version better in both instances. The black and whites make nice prints too though!

Maybe it isn’t fair to compare, both versions have their special attributes!

Nice images in both formats. I think I prefer the BW for the first image because it brings out texture. The framing spoils the second BW though because the vignette appears too tight on the flowers.
Colour suits the first though the black & white enhances the petal structure. The second the black and white is the winner hands down. Less busy & focus point easily drawn to bottom flower. But at the end of the day its always a personal choice
That’s a dogwood flower, not magnolia.
Thanks Mike….I think you are right about the vignette in the second image. I will have to touch that up!
Thanks for taking the time to comment Justine! It really is a personal choice. I keep showing these black and white flowers to my wife and she says nice…..but it would be better in color LOL!!!
Thanks Curt……as you can tell, species ID is not one of my strong points!
I’m for color on the first one. It really pops out at ya. I’m with Mike (and Curt) on the second photo, although that vignette does force the eye to the more dramatic blossom.
Thanks Al. I think I do have to modify that vignette a bit!
The black background of your blog’s theme makes these images really stand out, especially the top one, my fave. I think the dogwood looks much better in colour. Excellent work.
Thanks very much for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it!
